Common questions

How it works

What is FotosCraft?

FotosCraft is a commissioning marketplace for custom 3D printed objects. You describe or upload what you want, makers place bids, you pick one, pay, and the finished object ships to your door. No 3D software knowledge required.

How does the photo-to-3D process work?

Upload a clear photo of the object you want printed. Our AI pipeline converts it into a printable 3D model — you can preview the result and rotate it before committing. The generated model goes into the marketplace where experienced makers bid on producing it. Because AI-generated geometry isn't always perfect, makers can clean it up as part of their quote.

Can I upload my own 3D model instead of a photo?

Yes. The "Model upload" tab on the Create page accepts GLB, STL, OBJ, and 3MF files. If you already have a printable file, skip the AI step entirely and go straight to getting bids on production and shipping.

How long does a commission take?

Most makers quote a lead time in their bid — typically 3–10 days for printing and shipping. You see each maker's estimate before accepting. Once you accept a bid and pay, the maker gets your file and starts immediately.

What happens after I submit a commission?

Your job appears in the marketplace where verified makers can see it and place bids. You'll get an email when bids arrive. Log into your dashboard, review the bids, and accept the one that fits your budget and timeline. You pay at acceptance, the maker prints, marks it delivered, and you confirm receipt to close the job.

Pricing & payment

How is pricing determined?

Makers set their own prices based on material cost, print time, complexity, and their hourly rate. The Pricing page has a calculator that gives you a realistic estimate before you even post.

When am I charged?

Only when you accept a bid. Browsing, posting a commission, and receiving bids are all free. You pay through Stripe at the moment you choose a maker — the maker is notified and your file is released after payment clears.

Is there a platform fee?

Yes — a small platform fee is included in the total shown at checkout, covering payment processing and file hosting. It's visible as a line item before you confirm payment.

What payment methods are accepted?

All major credit and debit cards via Stripe, plus Apple Pay and Google Pay in supported browsers. We don't handle card details directly — everything goes through Stripe's PCI-compliant checkout.

Quality & trust

What if I'm not happy with the final print?

Contact us before confirming delivery. The "Confirm delivery" button closes the job and releases payment — don't click it until you're satisfied. If a maker ships something defective or wrong, we'll work with you on a resolution including a refund where appropriate.

How do I know a maker is reliable?

All makers are independently verified. Bids include the maker's specialty (modeler, print shop, or full studio), their quoted lead time, and any notes about their process. As ratings accumulate you'll also see each maker's track record directly on their bid.

Is my uploaded photo or model file kept private?

Your file is stored securely in private cloud storage and only shared with the maker whose bid you accept. We do not use your files to train AI models.

What if the AI model from my photo doesn't look right?

You preview the 3D model before it goes to any maker. If it's rough, re-run with a better photo or switch to model upload. Makers can also quote for cleanup as part of their bid — it's often a quick fix.

For makers

How do I become a maker on FotosCraft?

Go to the Makers page and fill in your profile — your specialty, materials, region, and day rate. Once saved, you'll see a live feed of commissions that match your capabilities. Place bids on jobs that interest you.

What percentage does FotosCraft take from makers?

A platform commission is deducted from each completed job — shown in your maker dashboard. No listing fees, subscription costs, or charges for bids that aren't accepted. You only pay when you get paid.

How do I get the print file after my bid is accepted?

Once the buyer completes checkout, you'll receive an email with a download link. The file is also available in your dashboard under "My Bids" — look for the "Download print files" button on accepted jobs.
